For example: #1: “잘 지냈어요?” and “어떻게 지내세요?” are not always direct equivalents of “How are you?” in Korean. “잘 지냈어요?” is closer to “How have you been?” and is usually used when you haven’t seen someone for a while. Korean people don’t typically use “How are you?” as a casual greeting in the same way English speakers do. #2: In Korean culture, the word “친구” usually refers to someone who is the same age as you. You can of course be close to people who are older or younger, but the way you address them and describe the relationship is different. It’s an interesting cultural difference!
